Coloradans can now take plumbing and electrical tests in Spanish

Colorado’s labor, plumbing, and electrical exams can now be taken in Spanish — an effort to remove regulatory barriers to licensing and increase accessibility.

COLORADO, United States — As part of ongoing efforts to remove regulatory barriers to licensing, from colorado The Division of Professions and Occupations (DPO) has partnered with provider PSI to offer electrical and plumbing exams in Spanish.

DPO is part of the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA), which regulates electricians and plumbers, along with dozens of other fields.

“DPO and DORA have been nationally recognized as leaders in reducing regulatory barriers for licensed professionals and are pleased to announce these latest Spanish translations for electricians and plumbers,” said the DPO Director. , Ronne Hines, in a press release.

DPO has previously offered Spanish permit applications for plumbing and electrical as part of its overall efforts to increase accessibility to Colorado’s workforce.

“Other recent initiatives have included reduced licensing timelines, addressing the needs created by health care emergencies, and increasing support for workers who have historically had difficulty obtaining medical permits. ‘a permit,” Hines said. “These efforts to open pathways to licensing will only grow.”

More than 2,100 electricians and plumbers were re-licensed in 2021, the statement said.

State law requires plumbers and electricians seeking initial licensure in Colorado to pass an exam in order to receive a residential, journeyman, or master license.

Individuals seeking to be licensed in Colorado as a residential, journeyman, or master plumber or electrician must pass the exam before applying after gaining the required hourly experience in the field.

Candidates can visit www.psiexams.com to create, save and schedule these exams and access a Spanish language tutorial on the exam. Exams can be found in the Government/State Licensing section.

PSI has a dedicated Colorado applicant hotline in English at 1-855-898-0710. Those wishing to schedule an exam can also call 800-367-1565 ext. 6733 for assistance in Spanish.

The Colorado Plumbing and Electrical Boards do not issue approvals for the exam, and potential candidates should contact PSI directly to schedule as part of the ongoing registration process.

Those who pass the exam can then apply to the respective electrical or plumbing boards using an online application at dpo.colorado.gov.
