Tarleton Men’s Golf lands Alvaro Huidobro

STEPHENVILLE, Texas — The Tarleton men’s golf team has added the fourth member to its first roster in more than 25 years, making its first transfer since the program restarted.

Tarleton announced Wednesday that they have added Alvaro Huidobro to the squad, a transfer from Milligan University, a private Christian school in Elizabethton, Tennessee. The Buffaloes are members of the Appalachian Athletic Conference of the NAIA.

“Alvaro is a talented young man with a ton of confidence who played very well last year,” the head coach said Luck Cain noted. “His experience and ability to compete at a high level is exactly what we are looking for and we are delighted to have him on campus starting in August.”

Huidobro played in six tournaments as a rookie for the Buffaloes, earning two top-10 finishes, including a silver medal at the Nick England Memorial as he shot -3 (68). He took sixth place at East Tennessee Collegiate with a +1 score in two rounds, shooting 73-72.

Huidobro is from Gijon, Spain. He is a graduate of the National Golf School in Blume, where he participated in all the Spanish championships, both regionally and nationally, in his age group from 2011 to 21. He won the Spanish Regional U16 Championship in 2019 and the U16 interregional championship in 2018 and 2019.

Possessing a handicap of +3.7, Huidobro’s all-time low score is -7 (65). He finished tied for 11th in the Spanish Absolute Amateur Championship with a score of -10 over four sets in 2021, and won the Federation IV Castilla Y Leon Cup. Before leaving for Milligan, the Spaniard was in the top 20 of his home country’s U18 rankings.

Huidobro will be a sophomore when he arrives in Stephenville to study economics at Tarleton State University. He joins Max Bengtsson, Johnathan Kittle and Cristobal Sepulveda as the first members of the 2022-23 squad.
